Jasper  Cameron

Jasper Cameron passed away March 15th, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. He was born in Scotland County, N.C. on September 16th, 1916 to Murdock Blue Cameron and Mary McPherson Cameron. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ethel and Pauline.

Mr. Cameron began his 42 year career with the former Seaboard Coastline Railroad in Hamlet, N.C. He retired as Assistant Chief Train Dispatcher of the Savannah Division in 1982. He truly loved every minute of his career with the railroad and when able attended the Railroad Retirees' Club dinners. In former years he was an avid gardener and an excellent "shade tree mechanic." He had a knack for repairing most anything that was broken and enjoyed helping family and friends with his mechanical abilities.

He was an active and long time member of Robert McIntire UMC, involved in many ministries of the church, until recently when he transferred his membership to Whitefield UMC. He was a long time mason and member of the Solomon's Lodge #1 F and A.M., Daylight Lodge, and Laurel Chapter #51 of the Eastern Star.

He loved his family and was truly a family man. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Mathis Cameron, two daughters Carolyn C. Lota Alex of Statesboro, Ga., and Deborah E. Cameron of Savannah, son, William J. Cameron Dorothy of Forsyth, Ga., grandchildren Patrick Lota Jane of Norcross, Ga., Alison L. Tanner Jonathan of Savannah, and Jonathan C. Lota of Statesboro. He is also survived by 2 nieces Ruby M. King, Doris M. McIntire, one nephew H. Wilson Moore, Jr., and several great nieces and nephews. He had two loving pets, Moe and Effie.

Honorary Pallbearers will be co-workers of the former Seaboard Coastline Railroad dispatcher's office, Savannah Division, members of the Ulmer-Weslyan Class at the former Robet McIntire UNC, Ennis W. Mooneyham, Boyd McGee, Chester Hamilton, John Pigott and Dr. Donald Anderson.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with an Eastern Star service at 6:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites.
